I was talking with Greater Des Moines convention guru Greg Edwards and regional planning guy Todd Ashby last week when Ashby, just in fun, asked Edwards if Des Moines would be trying to lure the Olympics from Zika-suffering Brazil. That didn’t seem to be in the cards, but Edwards said, “I presented to the Urbandale City Council last night, and one of the council members asks, ‘Are we going for the 2028 Olympics?’ I said, ‘Well, actually we are, unless of course, the Zika virus has moved to Des Moines by then.’ ” We’re pretty sure he was joking. But the NCAA tournaments? Stay tuned.
