Des Moines Area Community College has hired a Texas college administrator as the next provost of the DMACC Boone campus. Drew Nelson, originally from Minnesota, has been dean of liberal arts and sciences at Alvin Community College in Houston since 2007. He succeeds longtime Boone Campus Provost Tom Lee, who retired at the end of June. Nelson earned a B.A. from Macalester College in English and history in 1990, an M.A. from Mankato State University in English in 1993 and his Ph.D. in English from Texas A&M University in 1996. As part of his responsibilities as Boone campus provost, Nelson will oversee the credit program at the DMACC Hunziker Center in Ames.
