Iowa Events Center generates $1.9 million profit for county

The Iowa Events Center generated a $1.9 million profit for Polk County in the past fiscal year, driven by record revenues for the convention centers. Spectra by Comcast Spectacor, which manages the Iowa Events Center, today presented a check for $1,938,663 to the Polk County Board of Supervisors. The profit represents the second consecutive year the Iowa Events Center – comprised of Wells Fargo Arena, Hy-Vee Hall, and the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center at Veterans Memorial – has exceeded $1.9 million in profit. From July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016, Spectra booked 547 events at the Iowa Events Center attracting more than 1.27 million customers. The convention center events surpassed budgeted gross revenues by $3.2 million, which is $100,000 more than last fiscal year, and the highest gross revenues for the convention centers to date, Spectra said in a release. For the second consecutive year, the convention center operations finished with no government subsidy.
