Architectural Foundation sets Prairie School tour in Mason City

163 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Real Estate and DevelopmentThe Iowa Architectural Foundation is offering a day-long tour Nov. 5 of Prairie School Architecture in Mason City. The trip, by motorcoach from Des Moines, includes a lunch and tour of the Historic Park Inn, the only remaining hotel in the world designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, led by Bergland Cram, the architects who completed the hotel’s restoration in 2012. Other stops are the Rock Crest – Rock Glen Historic District, the largest collection of Prairie Style homes surrounding a naturalized common area, Wright’s Stockman House and Interpretive Center and two private homes – the Blythe and Melson houses, both designed by Walter Burley Griffin between 1911 and 1913 – that are rarely open to the public. All tours will be led by design professionals. Cost is $140, including bus fare, a snack and lunch, and admission to four buildings.
