Rural Mainstreet Index falls for 13th straight month
Creighton University’s Rural Mainstreet Index fell for the 13th straight month, though Iowa is faring better than the area as a whole. The overall index fell to 37.3 in September from 41.1 the month before. An index of 50 is considered growth-neutral. Iowa’s index fell to 56.2 from 58.3 but was still “solid,” Creighton economist Ernie Goss reported. The state’s new-hiring index rose to 65.1 from 58.1.
