NOTEBOOK: We were so proud, and a little tipsy

We at Business Publications Corp. were all invited to attend a special unveiling Wednesday night at Bubba Southern Comforts, the hot, new downtown restaurant that features Southern comfort food as envisioned by owner Chris Diebel.

Diebel, a marketing guy whose entrepreneurial ideas have been encouraged and supported by our boss, Connie Wimer, for about a decade, unveiled a new drink on the restaurant’s fall menu — the Ms. Wimer.

His goal was to pay homage to her with the first of several drinks to be named after local figures. Wimer’s favorite drink is a Negroni, which is an aperitif of gin, vermouth and Campari, a dark herbal liqueur, with an orange twist.

Diebel’s liquor team came up with the idea that the drink should acknowledge Wimer as a style icon and specifically her white hair, so it couldn’t be a dark-colored drink. They substituted Cocchi Americana, an aperitif wine that is clear for the darker Campari.

Around 30 of Wimer’s employees, friends and family sampled the drinks and appetizers in her honor. Now that’s the kind of company meeting we like.
