Finalists for Des Moines police chief position to attend public reception

City Manager Scott Sanders chose Michael Davis, Allen Tunks, Stephen Waymire and Dana Wingert from among eight candidates who were given oral exams. Davis is police chief of Northeastern University in Boston. Tunks is a Des Moines police captain. Waymire and Wingert are majors with the Des Moines department. Eighteen people applied for the position. In addition to interviews, including a closed session with the City Council, the candidates will tour the offices of the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Des Moines Neighbors and Evelyn K. Davis Community Center on Wednesday. The public reception will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates. Read more
