Mercy Medical Center’s Central Pediatric Clinic has been named as the Des Moines area’s first Literary Rich Waiting Room.

The award is given out by Iowa Public Television (IPTV) and Reach Out and Read Iowa (RORI).

IPTV will donate a “Raising Readers Learning Center,” which includes a cart of materials to foster early literacy skills, including books, activity sheets, toys and puzzles as well as a flat-screen television and DVD player.

IPTV and RORI will present the learning center to the clinic at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
