What’s it like to bike through 18 inches of sand, swim the English Channel and climb Mount Everest? Des Moines attorney and adventurer Charlie Wittmack, the first Iowan to summit Everest, will be available to answer those questions during two speaking engagements on Jan. 13 at Des Moines University (DMU). Wittmack, who is preparing to again climb Everest this summer as part of The World Triathlon that he launched last year, is working with DMU to promote maternal health education while he is in Nepal. Wittmack will speak at noon and 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the Student Education Center auditorium, 3300 Grand Ave. in Des Moines. The event is free and open to the public.
