Central Iowa raked in $1.6 billion from 2010 visitors

In 2010, about 2.9 million visitors came to Greater Des Moines and spent about $1.6 billion, one quarter of the money spent by travelers in the entire state, according to the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Polk County travel expenditures were at $1.5 billion in 2010, while Dallas County brought in $141 million, bringing the total expenditures in Greater Des Moines to $1.6 billion, an 8.5 percent increase over 2009. Total expenditures in the state of Iowa were $6.6 billion.
