Almost half of small business owners in the United States won’t be taking a summer vacation this year, and 60 percent say they are working more this year than last.

Manta Media Inc. released its Small Business Wellness index for the second quarter this morning which showed that small businesses are being hit hard by a slowing economy. Manta surveyed 1,200 business owners across the country to compile the data, according to a release.

“The current economic conditions are putting a strain on all businesses, particularly (small to medium-size businesses), that often times need to do more with less,” said Pamela Springer, CEO of Manta, in a release.

The survey also found that 70 percent of small businesses do not plan to hire more during the summer months, according to a release.

Of the business owners that will be able to take a trip this summer, Manta found that 70 percent plan to check work emails or documents from mobile devices while away from the office.
