Youth struggle to find work in weak economy
You may want to give your son or daughter a pat on the back if he or she has found a job for the summer. Only 25 percent of teens ages 16 to 19 are employed, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In the last two decades, that number was closer to 40 to 50 percent. Though the job market continues to be rough for many as the economy grows slowly, the job market is hardest for teens, who may be losing job opportunities to older workers, according to MSNBC.
