ISU researcher looks at value of amusement park attractions
Iowa State University assistant professor Tom Schrier is conducting a multiyear study that explores how new attractions influence attendance rates at amusement parks and theme parks.
During the study’s first two years he has collected data from 16 parks, including Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, and Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm in Anaheim, Calif.
Schrier’s preliminary analysis shows that new attractions may be worth the investment in terms of attendance at the large destination parks, but not necessarily at regional parks, such as Altoona’s Adventureland.
