Iowa Transportation Commission releases long-term plan
The Iowa Transportation Commission yesterday approved a long-term planning project.
The plan, “Iowa Motion – Planning Ahead 2040,” will provide direction for aviation, bicycle and pedestrian transit, highway transit, public transit, rail and waterways, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) said in a press release.
The plan projects the demand for transportation infrastructure services to the year 2040, and takes into account the social and economic changes expected to take place in the time period. It will provide a guide to the commission as it makes investment decisions, and is designed to be a resource for local governments and metropolitan planning agencies.

The DOT also presented a draft of the Fiscal Years 2013-2017 Iowa Transportation Improvement Program, which forecasts about $2.6 billion to be available for highway system investments.
The draft is available for public comment by clicking here. The commission is scheduled to consider approval at its June 12 meeting.
