The state of Iowa will receive $76,000 in federal stimulus funds to install a 20-kilowatt wind turbine adjacent to a new state office building under construction near the state Capitol. State officials received notification yesterday that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant, which the state will match, has been approved. The turbine, which will have 35-foot-diameter blades mounted on a 140-foot tower, will be located on the eight-acre site of the Iowa Utilities Board and Office of Consumer Advocate Building at the corner of Court Avenue and East 14th Street. The building, which is being built to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum standards, is scheduled for completion in December.
