Iowa’s Jolly Time popcorn wants a piece of Monopoly fame
Hasbro Inc. is asking consumers to vote on which of its eight Monopoly game pieces should be retired. Until Feb. 6, you can vote on the company’s Facebook page to ditch your least favorite piece. (Our vote is to get rid of the iron.) The game pieces were relevant in the 1920s when Monopoly was introduced, but Hasbro thinks it’s time for an update.
Jolly Time Popcorn, a Sioux City company, began a last-minute lobbying campaign to add a popcorn game piece to the new game piece offerings. In an open letter to Hasbro CEOs, Jolly Time CEO Garry Smith writes that “Game night without Jolly Time Pop Corn is criminal — and you should go directly to jail for this callous mistake.”
