Members of the 2011 class of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute’s Community Leadership Program (CLP) are visiting about 800 third-grade students in Des Moines today to read, donate and inspire leadership. The stops at Brubaker, Lovejoy, McKinley, Morris, Park Avenue, River Woods, Willard, Findley, Madison, Oak Park, Holy Family and Amos Hiatt elementary schools will center on lessons found in books such as the “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and other titles by Eric Carle. The Leaders & Literacy event is part of a midyear retreat for the 58-member CLP class.
