Thomson Reuters said today that the value of takeovers worldwide was $351.6 billion in the first few weeks of the year, up 78 percent from the beginning of 2010 and the highest total since more than $580 billion in deals were made at the start of 2000, CNNMoney.com reported. Among those deals is the $7 billion acquisition of Beckman Couler Inc. by Danaher Corp. CNNMoney.com said the deals include coal and other energy companies, media outlets, including AOL Inc.’s plan to buy the Huffington Post website for $315 million, and retailers.
