Volunteer Hall of Fame members announced
The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service announced today the 2011 inductees for the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame, who will be honored on Feb. 22, which is Volunteer Awareness Day in Des Moines.
Individual category inductees are Rich Eychaner of Des Moines, who in 2000 established the Matthew Shepard Scholarship for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender Iowa high school seniors; Thieleane Raecker of Waterloo, who launched the nonprofit organization Womenade; and Swallow Xiaozhe Yan, who is the director of the Iowa Chinese Association.
The inductee in the national service category is Erin Sullivan of Iowa City for her work with youths in Johnson County. The organization/nonprofit category inductee is the Lions Club of Iowa.
