Rivers approaching flood stage
The Des Moines Public Works Department is warning residents of road closures and rising river levels. The Raccoon River at Fleur Drive was at 11.73 feet at 9:45 this morning and is expected to exceed its flood stage of 12 feet tomorrow. The Des Moines River at Southeast Sixth Street will be within 0.9 foot of its 24-foot flood stage on Saturday, while the river at Second Avenue is expected to be at 17.3 feet tomorrow, nearly six feet below flood level. George Flagg Parkway from Southwest 30th Street to Park Avenue and Walnut Hill Drive from 61st to 62nd streets have been closed due to water across the roadways.
