Report: Des Moines green jobs sector growing fast
Des Moines-West Des Moines is listed as No. 3 on the Brookings Institution’s list of Top 100 Metropolitan Areas with the Fastest Green Jobs Growth for 2010, with annual growth rates above 10 percent. The report credits the public sector as one of the growth factors, along with the government’s ability to experiment with green programs. More than 2,500 green jobs have been created in the city in the past seven years, good for 11.4 percent annual growth. The report said Des Moines has 5,256 clean economy jobs, which make up 1.6 percent of all jobs in the region, ranking it No. 68 in the study. To view the report, click here.
