Operation Downtown and the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation are seeking artists or artist teams to create captivating murals beneath the Ninth Street viaduct in downtown Des Moines. The project aims to revitalize the area and enhance its visual appeal. Adjacent to the Shop at 901 Cherry Street, an event venue, the mural site offers high visibility to a variety of guests. The design should be bright, engaging, and appeal to pedestrians and motorists. The budget of $17,000 covers artist fees, materials, installation, and related expenses. Artists 18 and older are eligible, with a preference for underrepresented artists in downtown Des Moines. Up to six finalists will be selected to submit proposals, each receiving a $500 design fee. To apply, submit contact information, a letter of interest, a resume, professional references and three to five work samples (not limited to murals) in PDF format via email to executive.director@dsmpublicartfoundation.org. The deadline is June 26 at 5 p.m.
