The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has granted $300 mini-grants to 30 sponsors participating in the Iowa Farm to Summer campaign, “Root for Radishes!” These grants aim to support the purchase of local food and promote summer meal sites. By highlighting radishes as the vegetable of the summer, the campaign seeks to increase children’s participation at Iowa summer meal sites and create market demand for local producers. Participants will source local produce, engage in promotional activities and provide learning opportunities for children. To learn more about the program and participating locations, visit the Iowa Farm to School and Early Care website. The initiative is part of a five-year campaign featuring different vegetables each summer. Funding for the program is provided by the Iowa Department of Agriculture through the Specialty Crop Block Grant. Follow the campaign using the hashtag #IowaFarmtoSummer.
