Sen. Chuck Grassley said Thursday that Iowa will receive a big boost in funding for projects throughout the state in the federal transportation bill that was filed in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. According to a press release, Grassley, a senior member of the House-Senate conference committee, was able to secure $2.3 billion for Iowa projects over the next five years. “The Iowa delegation worked hard to get the state the necessary funding to give Iowans safe roads, bridges, trails, buses and transportation facilities,” Grassley said. “It was important to get this bill done so states like Iowa can plan for their short season when work can be done due to our long winters.” To view the entire release, including the list of projects that were included in the bill for Iowa, click here.
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines reported its unaudited financial highlights for the second quarter. The bank recorded net incomes of $13.2 million and $43.5 million during the first three and six months of 2010, respectively, compared with net incomes of $75.9 million and $70 million for the same periods in 2009. It said in a release that though the decrease was primarily due to mark-to-market results on derivative and hedging activity reported in other income, net interest income and net interest spread showed improvement over the previous period and quarter. Federal Home Loan Bank expects to file its second-quarter 2010 report with the Securities and Exchange Commission around Aug. 10.
