Buyouts proposed for flood-damaged homes
The city of Des Moines plans to submit an application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for a proposed voluntary buyout project for owners of single-family homes located in 100-year flood plain areas that sustained substantial damage from the August 2010 flooding. To be eligible for the proposed buyout, a flood-damaged home must have sustained 50 percent or more structural damage. For more information, call the city’s real estate division at (515) 283-4561. Inspections are to be scheduled no later than Dec. 3.
