Online sales rise on Cyber Monday
Online sales rose 19 percent on Cyber Monday compared with last year, making yesterday the biggest Internet shopping day of the year so far, according to Coremetrics, an IBM Corp. subsidiary.
Online sales were up 31.1 percent on Monday from online sales on Black Friday.
The average order value on Monday was $194.89, up from $180.03 in 2009 and $190.80 on Black Friday.
Holiday shopping via mobile phone is rising astronomically, according to PayPal, which reported a 310 percent increase in mobile shopping on Black Friday. Coremetrics reported that 3.9 percent of shoppers visited a retailer’s site using a mobile device on Cyber Monday.
“The tough economy has made shoppers more price-conscious, and this year’s Black Friday results show that they’re going online to find the best deals,” said Amanda Pires, senior associate at PayPal, in an interview with Mobile Commerce Daily.
