Jim Hoff received a promotion to assistant city manager during the Des Moines City Council meeting on Monday. In his new role, which will take effect immediately in anticipation of the retirement of current Assistant City Manager Pam Cooksey, Hoff will oversee the city’s facilities division and the engineering and information technology departments. His annual salary will be $189,000. “Jim brings extensive experience and knowledge to this position,” City Manager Scott Sanders said in a prepared release. “His vision and insight will help guide major projects forward to build the future of our city.” For the past seven years, Hoff has served as the facilities manager for the city of Des Moines, where he worked on planning and construction for major projects such as the Municipal Services Center II and Fire Station 11. He is also currently guiding projects such as the Reichardt Community Recreation Center, the City Facility Expansion Study and the new City Greenhouse. “The projects we work on over the next decade will shape what our city looks like for the next 50 years,” Hoff said in the release. “The opportunities ahead of Des Moines are energizing, and it’s going to take collaborative, intelligent planning to take full advantage. I’m looking forward to working with our team across city departments to move toward those goals.”
