Skate DSM announced that it will host the third annual Des Moines Streetstyle Open, a skate contest from Sept. 21 to 23. The Des Moines Streetstyle Open is modeled after the Copenhagen Open, an international skate competition. The event will kick off with the “hill bomb” at 6 p.m. Sept. 21 at Des Moines Street and East Fifth Street. Contests will take place in different locations throughout Des Moines, ending with the open street contest at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Lauridsen Skatepark. Some of the top skaters from Des Moines, the Midwest and around the world will compete. “Now in our third year, the Des Moines Streetstyle Open is quickly becoming a must-go-to event for skateboarders,” Norm Sterzenbach, president of Skate DSM, said in a prepared statement. “We are excited that this year’s event will be the biggest one yet. We are bringing in some top-tier talent and expect to see some world-class skateboarding.” The Des Moines Streetstyle Open will include a $28,000 prize purse, its biggest to date, with $20,000 allocated to the street contest on Sept. 23. The event is free and open to the public, and no tickets are required for any of the events. For more information about the event, click here.
