Iowa Bankers Association announces 2023-24 leadership roles

The Iowa Bankers Association elected officers and directors to serve on its 2023-24 board of directors. The leaders assumed their roles during the IBA annual convention in Des Moines this week. The officers who were elected for the IBA executive committee include Mary Kate Bates, president and CEO of Bank Midwest in Spirit Lake, as chair of the board; Jim Plagge, president and CEO at Bank Iowa in West Des Moines, as chair-elect; Melissa Ballard, chief financial officer at First Iowa State Bank in Albia, as treasurer; Matt Lujano, president at Westside State Bank in Westside, as past chair of the board; and John Sorensen, president and CEO of IBA, as secretary. The officers were nominated and approved by IBA member banks from across the state. The IBA executive committee leads the board of directors, which is responsible for setting policy and overseeing the general operation of the IBA.

Also serving on the 2023-24 IBA board of directors are:

  • Scott Thompson, CUSB Bank in Cresco, northeastern region
  • Zach Stubbs, West Bank in West Des Moines, central region
  • Jeff Juergens, Farmers Savings Bank in Strawberry Point, eastern region
  • Julie Williams, First National Bank in Fontanelle, southwestern region
  • Shane Zimmerman, Two Rivers Bank & Trust in Burlington, southeastern region
  • Clarissa Wing, Wells Fargo Bank in Des Moines, member at-large
  • Chip Reeves, MidWestOne Bank in Iowa City, member at-large
  • John Nelson, Ames National Corp., member at large
