West Des Moines appoints new city attorney, deputy city attorney

211 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and Law, Key Leadership ChangesGreta Truman, who has served as West Des Moines’ counsel and assistant city attorney since 2014, has been appointed city attorney by the City Council.
Truman, whose appointment was effective Dec. 18, replaces Richard Scieszinski, who retired in July after 22 years with the city.
Truman previously served as a trial attorney and appellate attorney for the state of Iowa in the offices of the special defense unit, appellate defender, Des Moines adult public defender, and Fort Dodge public defender. She also was an administrative law judge for the Iowa Board of Parole.
Truman received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and her law degree from the University of Iowa’s College of Law.
Her annual salary is $173,516.
In a related move, the council also approved adding the position of deputy city attorney in the city’s legal department. The council appointed Jessica Grove to the position effective Dec. 18.
Grove has been an assistant city attorney for West Des Moines since May 2019. She previously served as assistant city attorney for the cities of Des Moines and Ames.
Grove received her bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and her law degree from the University of Iowa. Her annual salary will be $164,665.
