The State Historical Society of Iowa is inviting Iowans of all ages to celebrate Iowa History Month with unique programming. Every year, the tradition offers new opportunities to learn more about Iowa’s past and Iowans who have influenced their communities, their state, their country and beyond, a press release said. The month features in-person and online programs, including historical presentations, family-friendly activities, guided tours and special exhibits of the Iowa History Collection Catalog.

Some of this months events include:

Research Center open house events (Des Moines and Iowa City, March 8, 15, 23 and 29): Discussions will vary each week in each location, from topics like Grant Wood’s controversial “Sultry Nights” painting to the mysterious history of the Central Iowa Railway Co.

Iowa History Book Club (Online, 7 p.m. today): Host Andrew Klumpp chats with author Jeff Bremer about his book, “A New History of Iowa,” which tells the story of the state in a digestible narrative.

Spring Break Programs (Des Moines and online, March 12-16): Historians of all ages can join guided tours through select exhibits and 80,000 objects at the State Historical Museum of Iowa. Guests can join Goldie’s Kids Club to get access to educational activities at home.
