Drake University appoints Erik Maki as new dean of pharmacy college

171 wordsAll Latest News, Education, Key Leadership ChangesDrake University has selected long-time faculty member Erik Maki as the next dean of its College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Maki, who has been a professor at Drake since 2005 and is serving as chair of pharmacy practice, will begin his role as dean July 1. Maki has held numerous leadership roles with the university and oversees 19 faculty members. Maki holds a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Maki succeeds Renae Chesnut, who stepped down from her role as dean and started an administrative sabbatical in January. Chesnut will retire from Drake at the end of the year. Chuck Phillips, professor of pharmacy administration and associate dean, is serving as the college’s interim dean. “[Maki’s] experience, collaborative leadership skills, institutional history, and natural ability to cultivate relationships will further grow and strengthen the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, building upon the college’s accomplishments and reputation as a national leader,” said Drake University Provost Sue Mattison in a prepared statement.
