Ballet Des Moines announces Summer STEM Tour

179 wordsAll Latest News, Nonprofits and PhilanthropyBallet Des Moines will bring its full company of professional dancers to five locations this summer for free family activities and performances, including excerpts from Ballet Des Moines’ “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” along with “Love Letters,” an original work by artistic director Tom Mattingly that is dedicated to the LGBTQ community of Iowa. A host of interactive STEM experiences will travel alongside Ballet Des Moines, from Iowa State University’s FLEx Virtual Reality Lab to Blank Park Zoo’s activities exploring nocturnal animals. This is the fourth year Ballet Des Moines has hosted the summer tour. The tour will stop in Des Moines on June 8 in the East Village for Pridefest. “We continue to prioritize the needs of each community we visit, delivering on our community engagement, outreach and education initiatives — to expand access to the arts while wielding creativity and expression as a tool to expand learning, build confidence and forge community connections,” Ballet Des Moines CEO Blaire Massa said in a prepared statement.
