The Greater Des Moines Partnership wrapped up its annual three-day advocacy trip, DMDC 2024, on Friday in Washington, D.C.

According to Partnership officials, the 200-plus member delegation saw movement on several key areas of the Partnership’s federal policy agenda, including designating U.S. Highway 65 an Interstate, and held conversations with Iowa’s U.S. Congressional delegation about aiding the city of Perry as Tyson Fresh Meats Inc. prepares to close its 1,300-employee facility, as well as small business support, housing and other workforce issues.

Business Publications Corp. Group Publisher Chris Conetzkey and Business Record Associate Editor Mike Mendenhall spoke with four DMDC attendees Friday morning for a conversation streamed live from the event at the Hilton Washington DC Capitol Hill hotel.

Conetzkey and Mendenhall were joined for the live conversation by:

  • Tiffany Tauscheck, president and CEO, Greater Des Moines Partnership
  • Connie Boesen, mayor, city of Des Moines
  • Joseph Jones, chief of staff, Des Moines University president’s office; Windsor Heights City Council member
  • Grant Taylor, vice president, Hansen Company Inc.

The Central Iowa business and elected leaders shared their key takeaways from DMDC 2024 and a few things happening in their communities and industries.
