Des Moines restaurateur takes over Clear Lake’s Surfside Cafe

David Baruthio, the restaurateur who was involved with several Des Moines restaurants, including Baru 66, Blue Tomato and Bistro Nomad, has taken over the Surfside Cafe in Clear Lake, the Globe Gazette reported Thursday. The restaurant is next door to the Surf Ballroom, where Baruthio will be a concessionaire for the ballroom on show nights. According to the Gazette, Baruthio and his wife, Sara Hill, “have settled in Clear Lake.” The cafe’s opening date is set for May 28.
