Former department store building at Southridge Mall sold

A building at Southridge Mall that once was occupied by Younkers department store has been sold to a local web-based auction company and retail store, Polk County real estate records show.

The 105,000-square-foot building, located on the mall’s south side, was vacated by Younkers in 2018.

NativeBid of Des Moines began leasing the space in 2021. Native Real Estate LLC, among a variety of entities operated by Native Business Services, acquired the property, paying Macerich Southridge Mall LLC $1.43 million, records show.

In recent years, the mall’s owner – Macerich Co., based in Santa Monica, Calif. – has worked to repurpose space at Southridge, located at 1111 E. Army Post Road.

Customers of NativeBid can bid on auction products such as rugs, couches and other furniture items. Winning bidders pick up the merchandise at its southside location. NativeBid added a storefront at which customers can view products and purchase them.   

The real estate transaction was recorded May 14.

In other transactions:

A limited liability company managed by a New York-based private equity firm has acquired nearly 12 acres of industrial property in Altoona, real estate records show. ATCRH Altoona LLC, managed by Axial Reade, paid O’Halloran International Inc. $4.2 million for property at 3311 Adventureland Drive in Altoona, records show. The property includes a 45,378-square-foot industrial building constructed in 1981. The building is occupied by Trivista, which sells and leases semi-tractor cabs and other large trucks. In a related move, ATCRH Altoona LLC obtained a $75 million mortgage on the property from M&T Bank, located in New York. The real estate transaction was recorded May 15.

Timothy and Pamela Westrum paid Kepma Sisters LLP $1.37 million for nearly 75 acres of farm land northeast of Granger, records show. The property is north of Northwest 135th Street and about one-quarter of a mile east of Northwest 142nd Street/Highway 17. The transaction was recorded May 16.

Steven and Abbey Gutschenritter paid Brian and Kelly Joseph $1.15 million for property at 36853 R Ave. in Van Meter, Dallas County real estate records show. The 9.75-acre parcel includes a 4,438-square-foot house built in 2021. The transaction was recorded May 9.
