Dylan DeClerck, the co-founder of nonprofit Can Play and a past Business Record Forty Under 40 honoree, is set to compete with Team USA in the mixed division of the World Ultimate Championships, planned for Aug. 31 through Sept. 7.

One of his sponsors, Community Choice Credit Union, is throwing DeClerck a send-off party from 4 to 7 p.m. on July 10 at its downtown location, 1408 Locust St. The public is welcome to attend.

DeClerck started playing Ultimate Frisbee in high school and now plays professionally for the Minnesota Wind Chill in the Ultimate Frisbee Association. He was among the leaders with interesting pastimes whom we recently featured in the Business Record’s Photo Issue.

“I began playing Ultimate Frisbee as a sophomore at Valley High School and continued playing at the collegiate, club and professional levels for the past 12 years,” DeClerck said. “My childhood best friend, Jaden Van Dike, got me to start playing after school every Wednesday, and after a year of playing casually, he invited me to join the competitive team that played in Central Iowa Ultimate’s high school league.”

The leaders and the hobbies included in this year’s Photo Issue were as unique as ever. In addition to DeClerck, we featured a technology executive who bikes all over the world, a nonprofit leader who fishes commercially in Alaska, a CEO who loves woodworking and a business consultant who practices karate.
