Construction will begin this fall on a public safety center that will serve the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District and provide an office for the Polk County Sheriff’s department, which provides police service to Grimes. The 16,500-square-foot building will be located on a 3.75-acre parcel at Southwest County Line Road and Southwest Sixth Street in Grimes. Development costs are estimated at over $10.2 million. The project’s general contractor is DDVI Inc. The state-of-the-art fire station, designed by SVPA Architects, will include four bays. The site also allows for future expansion. “A lot of time and effort has been put into the design of this facility to ensure it best meets the needs of our firefighters and the growing community,” Fire Chief Jim Clark said in a prepared statement. “This station will allow us to provide a higher level of service and response to the people of Grimes.” The facility is expected to open in 2025. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned at the site at 10 a.m. Oct. 11.
