Most read commercial real estate stories in 2024

Readers of the Business Record’s commercial real estate news like knowing what properties have been sold and who bought them. In 2024, many of the Business Record’s most-viewed stories involved real estate transactions.

Readers were interested in other commercial real estate-related news as well, including an update on Grimes’ Hope District, the approval of the second phase of the Towne Center project in Waukee, and plans by Jay Wang to build a strip center in Ankeny. Also of interest was Travis Mansfield’s purchase of Southridge Mall, news that was first reported by the Business Record.

1. See inside West Bank’s new headquarters in West Des Moines: The Business Record was the first to provide the public with a look inside of West Bank’s new headquarters at 3330 Westown Parkway. The bank opened in its new space on April 15.

2. Shopping center in Clive sold for $7.46 million: A strip shopping center in Clive that once included Babies R Us and Joann Fabric Store was sold to University Park Properties LLC in early January.

3. Microsoft buys land in Van Meter: Technology giant Microsoft Corp. acquired 377 acres of farmland in Van Meter’s Vision Park in January.

4. American Equity plans move to Nationwide building downtown: Plans became public in May for American Equity Investment Life Insurance Co. to move into the Nationwide building at 1100 Locust St. in downtown Des Moines.

5. Wells Fargo sells properties in western suburbs to local entities: Wells Fargo sold two of its west suburban office properties in early 2024.
