Technology solutions provider Aureon announced today it has named George O’Neal its new CEO, effective Jan. 13. Scott Behn is retiring after five years in the West Des Moines-based company’s top leadership role, according to a news release.

O’Neal has worked in the telecommunications and network administration field for nearly 30 years. He has previously held roles at Alltell and AT&T, and most recently, he served 18 years as vice president of network services for GVTC Communications, a Texas-based communications provider. He led the transformation of GVTC’s network from copper to fiber, building fiber to over 80,000 rooftops and strategically managed over $350 million in capital spending, the release said.

“George has been instrumental in transforming GVTC Communications into a leading broadband provider. His strategic vision and ability to inspire teams make him the ideal leader to guide Aureon into its next phase of growth,” Behn said in a prepared statement.

O’Neal received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant.
