Johnston will annex a 1,461-acre area that includes Beaver Creek Golf Course, a U.S. Navy training facility under construction and part of Camp Dodge. The voluntary annexation, meaning landowners agreed to the plan, includes six large undeveloped lots near the Mile Long Bridge and along the east side of Iowa Highway 141. The state’s City Development Board approved the annexation last week. “In the past year, landowner interest in development has intensified, and there have been strong indications the area will begin developing if city services were brought into reach of the properties,” said Johnston Economic Development Manager Adam Plagge.
