Bankers Trust has hired Brett Hartema as its next chief financial officer, succeeding Kip Albertson, who is retiring from the role on Wednesday.

Albertson was honored as the Business Record’s 2025 Deloitte CFO of the Year earlier this year.

Hartema has spent the last 24 years at RSM US, LLP, where he most recently served as a partner. He was responsible for developing and leading client relationships and audit engagements for financial services companies throughout Iowa and across the U.S.

“Brett is a perfect match to our organization as we continue to grow,” Bankers Trust CEO and President Don Coffin said in a prepared statement. “Personally, I find Brett to be strategic, driven and smart. He is a CPA with demonstrated proficiency in generally accepted accounting principles and extensive experience within the financial services industry, including community banks. Just as important, he has experience leading teams, driving culture and investing in the professional development of his team members.”

Hartema is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and is active with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants.
