Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation on Nov. 2 to recognize the purpose and value of registered apprenticeship training and to pursue its further expansion. Currently, Iowa has 846 active registered apprenticeship programs — an increase of about 100 programs from fiscal 2015 — and 8,720 registered apprentices. In just the past month, Iowa has registered 17 new programs, and 141 registered apprentices completed their programs, Reynolds office said in a release. Registered apprenticeships align with one of the recommendations of the Future Ready Iowa Alliance: to expand high-quality work-based learning experiences in high-demand careers to all students, but particularly those who are underserved.
