136 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, The Insider NotebookPolk County has taken to the online auction house GovDeals.com to sell an unusual item that measures 112 feet by 60 feet — a basketball floor once used at Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
The 20-year-old floor has staged the Harlem Globetrotters, high school sports teams, and dance and drill competitions, the listing notes. As you can imagine, all that basketball trickery and back-flipping has left minor wear and tear. The wood was refinished and painted in 2006, when the Iowa Events Center logo was added.
The most recent high bid was $3,300, well above the $500 starting bid. As of Jan. 12, 25 bids had been submitted. The auction closes on Jan. 16 at 6:39 p.m.
The floor will be sold as is, and it’s currently stored on 16 dollies. The county is throwing in two hoops.
