McCoy, 51, made the announcement today during a news conference. The Democrat is serving his seventh term in the Iowa Senate, where he represents portions of Des Moines and West Des Moines. He will take on John Mauro, who plans to seek re-election to the Board of Supervisors’ 5th District seat, which represents Des Moines’ south side.
