NOTEBOOK: Womply claims Valentine’s Day isn’t a big deal for restaurants

The folks at Womply say Valentine’s Day is the 109th-best sales day of the year for restaurants. It’s a paltry 12 percent boost in transactions and 10 percent jump in revenue compared with any average day when we are taking our loved ones for granted.

The study was of small, independent restaurants in all 50 states in 2017. Maybe we just like Cheesecake Factory more than the Old Home Cafe in Lineville when the pressure is on to impress our Valentines.

Here are some other survey findings sure to make you crave roses or chocolate:

Iowa restaurants sell the most on Mother’s Day, when transactions are 9 percent higher than normal and sales are up 40 percent over the days when we just call Mom instead of taking her out to dinner.

On average, Iowa’s local restaurants make $30,000 per month in sales revenue, ranking the state 42nd among the 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Iowa restaurants earn 53 percent of their revenue between Friday and Sunday.

The average restaurant sees 38 transactions per day at an average ticket of $25.81. There was no word on how well you people are tipping.
