Two Iowa companies on top 125 training list

Cedar Rapids-based electrical and automation distributor Van Meter Inc. and Workiva, a maker of reporting, compliance and data management software based in Ames, were recognized as 2018 Training Top 125 winners at 96 and 118, respectively. It was the third consecutive award for Van Meter, which offers live training sessions communicated through an annual training calendar and online courses through its learning management system. Additionally, employee-owners are encouraged to pursue development through off-site conferences and training courses, and can receive tuition reimbursement for ongoing education. Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., which has significant operations in Des Moines, was ranked No. 7 on the list and was one of five Best Practice Award winners. Among the winning companies, 95 percent offer a tuition reimbursement to their employees, which an average of 11 percent of eligible employees used in the last year. The median amount spent on tuition reimbursement programs was $215,815.
