The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today awarded $532,000 in rebates to 16 Iowa school districts to help them replace 28 older diesel school buses, including three in the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District. The awards are part of more than $8.7 million awarded to replace or retrofit 452 older diesel school buses in 32 states. Each of the school districts will receive rebates through the EPA’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act funding. The new buses will reduce pollutants that are linked to health problems such as asthma and lung damage, the EPA said.
