Laurie Linhart of Urbandale has been appointed as the Honors Program director at Des Moines Area Community College. She replaces Sarah Waddle, who has been the Honors Program director since the summer of 2013. DMACC’s Honors Program, the first comprehensive honors program among Iowa’s community colleges, started in fall 2012 with 58 students representing all six DMACC campuses. Nearly 100 students currently participate in the program. Linhart, a former DMACC adjunct professor who began full time in August 2013, has a bachelor’s degree from Drake University, a master’s degree from Iowa State University and a doctorate in sociology from ISU. Waddle will return as an English professor at DMACC, teaching at the Boone Campus and the Ames Hunziker Center.
