Decorah residents battle Alliant Energy for green public utility
A group of Decorah residents are fighting Alliant Energy for the city’s right to create a publicly owned utility to power 8,000 residents and their businesses, the Des Moines Register reports. Residents working with the group Decorah Power are pushing to create a municipal utility that invests in solar and other renewable energy that Alliant doesn’t currently offer the community. Alliant opposes the effort, saying the group has underestimated costs to the community through the years.
